seen any movie similar to this?

judging by the swedish translated title, i was expecting a very predictable, seen-it-before thing, but i mean, this is really a diffrent, just the most refreshing thing. you got these drawings coming to life. so you got real actors and cartoon characters running around there. just the weirdest, hippest thing. it's been seen before, (in later movies, i guess). still nothing like this, i think.

i've built a fortress around me, i don't let anyone in,
and i guess i've said goodbye, to all the places where i've been,
these walls of stone,
they keep me alone,
with all feelings kept inside,
that i manage to hide,
i got standing guards, and a steady wall, between us,
keeping you away far, the old equitment, has turned to rust,
seem like i'm in here to remain,
don't think things can ever be the same,
the gate is always barricated and closed,
your outside my world, and i'm outside yours,
in my own empire, blinded from reality, while battling my own war,
but i seem to only fight my own shadows, and there is noone trying to break down my door,
the cannon is cold, and the smoke is gone, i spend my life within these walls of stone,
in this fortress i act out and live alone.

This is a very odd and entertaining film – a weird blend of melodrama and comedy, with some fascinating animation and a very existential ending. It's not a perfect film, but it deserves to rise from its obscurity for its sheer originality. 8/10 stars.

As for other films like this: Not really, though Jack Lemmon's "How to Murder Your Wife" from 1965 had similar bizarre touches (and he also played a cartoonist), and "Luv" from 1967 seems a kindred spirit to this movie for its nuttiness.

Since this, of course, we've seen real-life characters interacting with cartoons, and "What Dreams May Come" seems like a Hallmark Card version of this, but I still think this film is in a class by itself.

Well, it is exactly the same as the TV show that came out a few years before this called 'My World and Welcome To It'. Even starred the same little girl, Lisa Gerritsen, in basically the same role. William Windom played the cartoonist. I only saw it a few times and I was very young, so it hangs in my memory like a faded ghost. You can find full episodes on YouTube. I like the movie much better. Barbara Harris is always delicious.
