Superfly the movie was a rough biography of this man

Apparently Phillip Fenty, the writer, read a series of stories in New York Magazine in the 70's about a very colorful drug dealer named Frank Lucas. This gave him the idea for the movie. You can read a very interesting article, The "Return of Superfly" by Mark Jacobson August 14, 2000. Just Google "New York Magazine" and in its search box type the word "Superfly." Scroll down and you will get the story. Check it out, Superfly fans!

I know about the article of which you speak. I read it years ago around the time the American Gangster film (which never mentioned anything about prostitution) came out. I also read Lucas' autobiography. However, I wonder why you'd think Superfly is roughly about Frank Lucas. Frank Lucas didn't pimp prostitutes, he was a drug kingpin. Frank ONLY sold drugs and had no desire to leave the life. He was forced to get out.
