..because dogs aren't allowed in the hospital where his old owner is. Another poster mentioned this too; Snoopy never "resolves" anything with Charlie Brown, he only comes back because he really has no choice and no place to live. I know it is only a cartoon...:) , and that Snoopy really loved Charlie and everyone. But I think the story could have been handled a little differently here.
"I offer you this rose...my heart, my soul, my love." "Love?" - Legend
It's been a little while since I watched it but wasn't it shown that Snoopy felt homesick even when with the girl? He left the gang because he got frustrated at them and could only see the disadvantages, so he wanted to get away. He thought it'd be better because in his mind this girl was an opportunity at happiness lost, but after being with her he realises that it isn't all that its cracked up to be, afterall he doesn't really even know her. It just makes him realize all that he left behind and had known for so long, he starts to see the advantages to the gang again. It looks like he wants to go back but he feels responsible and doesn't want to let the girl down, it's hard for him to just say no to her face. He's bawling and looking depressed all the way to the girl's place. The whole "No Dogs Allowed" is just a bit of iconic humour I think. At first it's part of what causes him to leave his hometown, because he feels (along with the way the gang treated him) he didn't belong. But at the end it's that very same thing that gives him reason to go back to where he now feels he really belongs. And he would of taken ANY reason really, it's just a funny coincidence it happened to be that particular reason. I believe this is shown by the fact that he suddenly gets really happy and is out of there in a second! He was hardly dissapointed at the turn of events. So in conclusion, it taught him to appreciate what he really had with the gang and Charlie Brown.
Well said Sai Soudon. And even if there are a few things unresolved - doesn't that make the film more realistic? Not everything resloves in the human world - and it is good to show children that.
I don't know where you have been for the last fifty years, but this has always been the crux of Snoopy and Charlie Brown's relationship...Snoopy thinks as little of Chaarlie Brown as Lucy and everybody else does...he hangs with Charlie Brown because Charlie feeds him and puts a roof underneath his head. That's the extent of Snoopy's loyalty to Charlie Brown and it always has been. If someone else offered the same food and roof, Snoopy would ditch Charlie Brown in a hot minute.
