Just finished watching this with my 6 year-old son.

This was a pretty strange movie. As far as Peanuts movies go, it's definitely The Empire Strikes Back or Temple of Doom. There's violence, mistreatment and abuse throughout the movie. The whole thing is soaked in anguish and ignited with Lila's hideous manipulation of Snoopy. I would not be surprised if she was in the hospital because her mother was poisoning her in some sort of Munchausen-by-proxy affair.

Both she and Clara are psychos. Just because a person is singing a song does not mean they're not crazy and even dangerous. I started singing along with Clara (which helps my son to start singing along- he's shy about doing it) and when my son joined in I realized that we were mouthing the words of this crazy person. Like someone had put the Unibomber's manifesto to music- or that "Put the lotion in the basket" dude.

Anyway, I wouldn't recommend it. It's got more lows than a handful of quaaludes. The only upbeat moments in it seem to revolve around Snoopy's relationship with Woodstock.

One last thing: Didn't you find it strange that there were SO MANY TEARS coming out of Snoopy and Lila's eyes at the end? I really think they added twice, maybe THREE times as much because they knew there was little emotional investment in the characters and they hoped to trigger our emotions with a visual cue.

I think I understand what you're trying to say. It can be pretty depressing at times.

Yeah, alot of the Peanuts movies, while for kids are a little smarter than kids. When I say that, I mean there is often a slight element of dark and depression and always a seemingly Political message in them. Alot of adult humor. Not grossout adult humor but jokes about the economy, real estate, politics, religion, etc that kids wouldn't get.

They are NOT for kids. They were for jaded adults in the 60s and 70s.

They offer a single gag that children will not understand: Depict kids precociously traficking in pop psychology and adult topics (Xmas is run by a big eastern syndicate..?) as if they had adult knowledge.

On top of that by showing this mopey garbage to your kids you prematurely expose them to social alienation and depression. Mmmmm... Kids are never too young to start pondering being an outcast. The peanuts gang treats Charlie Brown like garbage. I guess that's 'entertainment' for some people

I'd be surprised if his kid isn't a more depressed person now.

What do you base this on?

The fact that they deal with adult themes, like depression, exposing the hollow non-helpfulness of psychiatry ("I have to pay through the nose and I still have the same problems", something Charlie Brown experienced in hands of Lucy - Lucy basically makes him just feel worse about himself, just like psychiatry), or the commercialization of Christmas (ironically Coca-Cola sponsored the Christmas special, and we know what that corporation has done, especially through the 'santa' imagery)...

Being a loser, alienated, un-loved, etc.. such a kids' theme, right? Are you out of your mind?

What do you base this ludicrous claim on? Because it's cartoony ink lines on paper? The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park must also be for kids, right?

Have you ever read the comics? The comics at times can be rather ... dark? I cant think of too many specific references, it has been years since I read through the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 90s (never read the eighties all the way through). However, there are many instances of manipulation and light violence. There are also seemingly sinister moments such as when Charlie Brown goes to camp with a bag over his head. It is spanned over 2 weeks or even longer and ends with him seeing that weirdo Alfred E. Neuman from Mad as a face in the rising sun. The whole thing steps a little beyond disturbing and into the realms of schizophrenia. The whole sequence leaves you wanting Charlie Brown to go home and hug his mother, it is too strange. There is also an instance (perhaps it is at the same camp?) about a baseball in which Charlie Brown takes a ton of physical abuse.

First of all, there's no such thing as 'light violence'. Violence is always painful and physical, and although it can be brutal, there's no 'light' version that's acceptable and dismissable.

It's always serious, and it's always wrong.

Also, there's nothing LIGHT about punching someone so hard they somersault!

I don't think you know what the word 'sinister' means.

That's actually a very fun, cool story arc, that ends in a very absurd way (I was amazed to see the animated version do almost 100% justice to it, although some of the tones seemed a bit wrong).

What's 'sinister' about putting a bag over your head because your head resembles a baseball? It's disturbing, depressing, shocking, serious, etc.. but it's not 'sinister'.

I watched it as a kid, it's pretty downbeat and sad. It still haunts me to this day and the song is still stuck in my head!! "Snooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-oopy, Snooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-oopy, why oh why did you go (come home, come home)" haha.

So much wrong here, I don't even know where to begin.

First of all, what's wrong with The Empire Strikes Back? A New Hope has more blood, look at the sliced-off hand in the bar. When Darth Vader slices off Luke's hand, there's no blood.

Temple of Doom is a horrible, satanic, bloody, ritualistic gore-fest that should be buried in the same abyss of crimes against humanity as requiem for a dream.

How can you even compare a harmless and entertaining, the BEST Star Wars-movie, The Empire Strikes Back, to a horrible, vile pile of vomit and blood as that disgusting piece of crap, Temple of Doom?

Also, Snoopy Come Home is very tame, there's no blood, and the 'violence' you speak of is very cartoony.

This is not a movie for children anyway - why are you abusing your child by being a bad parent and exposing a young mind to movies that are not meant for kids? Just because it's 'cartoon', doesn't mean it's a kids' movie. I bet you also expose your reproduction result to The Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park, because they're 'cartoons', right?

Just because a parent is dumb, doesn't mean the movie is bad.

Tears coming out of a cartoon character's eyes should not be a parental concern, sheesh. Why is a cartoon tear a problem? It's just some ink lines on paper.

It's a comic effect, it's not supposed to be realistic. You actually count tears? Maybe find something better to do in life.

Lila doesn't manipulate anyone, she's not a psycho. The other girl is well-meaning, and not insane at all. The songs are funny, no harm in singing along with those. Are you forcing your kid to SING while watching movies, why isn't just watching enough?

Look and explain to your kid what this world does to animals in everyday life. You probably FEED your kids carcasses and flesh of brutally murdered, poor, innocent animals that suffered terrible pains when they were murdered..

You probably see nothing wrong with enslaving big animals for entertainment abuse, or eating flesh of murdered, innocent, cute animals, or draping your and your kid's body in animal skin.

But you think it's psychotic to give a stray dog a house and take care of their health (wash them so they don't have fleas or health problems)?

What a hypocrite!

Teach your kid what 'hypocrite' means, and tell that you are also one of those, if you want to be honest.

You talk about mothers poisoning their kids, and yet you complain that this movie is too violent.. look at your own imagery you obviously conjure up easily and vomit to this board unfairly against an innocent movie that didn't conform to your narrow and childish expectations!

You are being unreasonable, unfair and completely toxic to people, and a very bad parent to your kid. You welcome, someone had to tell the truth.
