Emphatic triggerman Marvin pursues meat processing mobster in this astonishingly resplendent movie splattered with sausage grinding mayhem.
Anyone who hasn't seen this film probably doesn't deserve to!
Seen this a few times over the years. Great 70's thriller with top notch cast and some fine direction. Marvin & Hackman...that's all ya need.
Seems to be a bit of an overlooked classic.

a true original, with an unbeatable tough guy cast--Marvin and Hackman, both real-life Marines. And my god Sissy Spacek was hot in 1972. Seriously. But on topic, this is one of Marvin's best performances, somehow combining cold callousness with dignity and humanity.

I'm not quite sure why this film is as over looked as it is, but, nevertheless it hold together pretty well.
compared to a lot of other actors' Marvin really didn't have to push too hard. His off hand nonchalence is beautiful to watch.
A great action flick, and a slap in the face to those who may consider the rural America as an example. Every major scene seems to take a staple of rural America and turn it into a nightmare. Remember? A county fair made into the scenary of a foot chase, a placid cornfield transformed into some hellish place as Marvin and Spacek try not to be run over by a combiner. And so on.
I though it was as great as difficult to watch. Can't believe the director who made this one spent the rest of his life making harmless comedies. Or wait, I think I can.

I won't go as far as to say Prime Cut's a masterpiece, but it's underrated. Lee Marvin, perhaps the coolest actor to ever grace the screen, and the great Gene Hackman are outstanding as always. I forgot how good Sissy Spacek was (in her debut). The film should be better known.

I saw this when it hit the theater. A bit brutal for the time but I will never forget it. I wonder why it is not out there now or has it been held off the market for some reason. I am sure a number of people went veggan over it but not me. Definitely something to think about when someone remarks that no one really wants to see how sausage is made. I guess I will have to try NetFlix to get it. I would like to see it again.
BTW. This is the second movie where Marvin played a mob enforcer. The other one was The Killers which was the last move Ronald Reagan made and the only one where Mr. Reagan played a villain and Marvin took him and Angie Dickenson out in the last scene.
I understand that when Lee Marvin died that President Reagan arranged for him to be buried in Arlington.
Rest in peace, Mr. President and Mr. Marvin.
As a WWII combat Marine [wounded in action], Mr. Marvin only had to desire to be buried at Arlington. He didn't need President Reagan.

shareI just got the DVD in the mail. Waited to see it on the TV but it never is. Watching it now. I've always thought that this was a great movie. Watching it, I see that I was right!
shareI just got my DVD a couple weeks ago. Watching it for the third time. I don't care what anybody says. Lee Marvin was the king of cool. Better than Steve McQueen I think. More threatening.
