wish they would rerelease this!
I just wanted to write a little message on why I consider this my favorite film from woody allen-although love and death is basically even with it.
What made Play it Again Sam such a great movie in my opinion was Allen did a little more of a serious mature comedy then what his other films were at the time such as bananas and take the money and run which were screwball silly comedies. Sam had a little more heart and feel to it. I actaully liked everyone in the movie. You could feel the emotions and root for Allen in winning Keatons' heart. This was defitnely not as dramatic as Annie Hall which I consider a total uturn in changing the way Allen would make films. To me Sam was sort of a in between the serious movies of Annie Hall but still had that sort of zany feel of his earlier films-I hope that makes sense! It had that sort of feel of Annie Hall but not as deep or dramatic. But it just goes to show you that You can make a funny hysterical good comedy that is clean cut with no bad language or gross vulgar humor. I wish more films would follow Allens style of unique creative humor. I remember seeing PLay it Again Sam when I was little kid and I laughed my ass off. It's a innocent clean cut feel good comedy. I didn't know what Casablanca was at time when I first saw sam. Then in high sch I saw Casablanca in a film class and I remembered that was going on in Sam. As I said before to me this is my favorite film from Allen beacuse it's a little more then just screwball antics of his earlier films but not yet as drmatic as his Annie Hall and later work.
Just a quick message trivia fact here the girl that played Allens wife in Sam was Susuan Anspach. She played in Five easy Pieces with Jack Nicholson. She never did much after that, it's a shame I thought she was a real talented actress. Also Jennifer Salt had a small to-she was the nympho in Midnight and Cowboy and Brewster Mcclould! Hey if anyone wants to write about my message please do alway's up for reading comments. Oh one more thing the dvd of Play It Again Sam is horrible! I just bought it and nothing is on it except the movie! No interviews, commentery, hell not even a theatrical tralier! What's up Paramount! I was very disapointed in that! Oh well Have a good one Pa moviefan
