A missing scene or is it included?

Shamefully, I haven't seen this film for years but it was once one of my favourite films and it'll probably be so again when I get hold of my own copy.
Now, quite some time ago, I remember seeing a trailer for an upcoming TV screening of "Play It Again, Sam" and the trailer contained a short scene that I'd never seen before.
There were a number of people sitting on a wall over looking the San Francisco Bay ("Sitting on the dock of the....?"). Woody Allen's character walked left to right across the screen. He was in a very happy mood and was patting people on the back in a sprit of bonhomie. The third or fourth person he patted, he evidently patted too hard and in the water they went!
As I say, I haven't seen the film for ages. My question is, does this scene feature in the version that you're familar with on a DVD/video? My guess is that it does but it wasn't in the version that I'd seen many times previously.

I haven't seen such a scene, but it sounds like something that might have occurred during his date with Jennifer Salt's character...when he goes overboard with impressing her, and makes a fool out of himself.

The scene is on my DVD copy, and its pretty damn funny.

Great. I've really got to get my act together and get the DVD as soon as possible. I've been house-bound this week with the flu and I've been watching stuff that's certain to cheer me up. So, that's entailed episodes of "Cheers"; "Sleeper"; "Love And Death"; "Manhattan Murder Mystery"; "Husbands And Wives"; "Zelig"; "Broadway Danny Rose"...but no "Play It Again, Sam". (D'OH!).
Everytime I've seen it on the shelf in the store, I've always thought: "Well, I don't need to buy it now because I know that I'll get it eventually". I'll rectify this ludicrous situation as soon as possible.

Actually...I was wrong. This scene is in the movie. When I first read your description, I don't think I was reading very closely. In the scene, it looks to me like people are sitting on a bridge, and then he pushes a person over, but you don't see anyone fall into the water. I guess that is why I didn't think of the scene right away. I couldn't remember any scene where a person falls into the bay.

The scene comes after Woody has had the affair with Diane, and he's in an ecstatic mood.

I've really got to buy the DVD. My memory of the film isn't too good other than I know that it made me laugh like hell.
I remember him crossing his legs and kicking his own table over; him accidentally throwing one of his albums across the room; that great running joke with Tony Roberts always calling to leave the telephone number that he can be reached upon and that it was filmed in San Francisco. That seems like such a great place to set a film. There's "Bullitt", of course, but also "What's Up, Doc?" - one of the funniest, non-Woody Allen, films I've ever seen.

I managed to rent a copy this week. Cracking stuff! You know that horrific/hilarious scene when the woman comes around to his place for his first date after his wife's left him? Woody always gets credit for being a great verbal comedian, quite rightly (if you haven't already done so, please seek out the recordings of his stand-up comedy - he was magnificent!), but he's also great at physical comedy too. At the end of that scene, when you're sure that things couldn't get any worse, when he puts his hands on the chair, there's a couple of beats, you're waiting for the cut to the next scene, and he puts too much weight on the chair and he falls over. God, just brilliant! (Watch for how the actress who plays Sharon reacts. Just before Alan leans too hard on the back of the chair, she puts her head down and then has to turn her head away because she's laughing so much).
