I didn't find it inappropriate - the scene directly preceding it showed Allen stopping in front of a movie billboard advertising a passionate Italian movie starring Vittorio de Sica, so his daydream now focused on Tony Roberts' reaction if it were like that movie genre.
And Roberts looked hawt in that scene - much more so than when he took off his robe and walked into the ocean.
"Look out! He's got a nug!"
