RE-MAKE INFO?

Has anyone heard anything more about a re-make being made?

No, I haven't and I hope I never do. This film is perfect as is and there's nothing a remake could do to improve upon it.

If they did do a remake, they should approach it from the way the novel is written... Niles is already committed to an insane asylum in the novel, and he basically retells the events of 1935. A nurse at the asylum is also a character in the story, but of course we never saw her in the movie because of the way the author adapted his book to film.

Generally I like remakes a lot less than the originals, though I try and at least have an open mind about them. I see that a 'The Other' is listed for 2016 (next year), but I haven't checked any info about it out yet, so I'm not sure if it's a de facto remake or if they simply copped the title.

I'm not sure a modern audience would sit through a remake that sticks too closely to Tryon's story (as is evidenced by a few threads here.)
Just leave it alone, I say.
I watched it again (on DVD) a few weeks back and still enjoyed it just as much as ever, (if not more) but I saw the original release in 1972 and absolutely love the book.
Chris gives a totally unaffected performance and I don't think I once caught him 'acting', even if some of the dialog sounded a bit unnatural (and the kid had amazing diction!) Martin had the darker version down cold - particularly when Niles tells him that, "angels don't take you to hell" - long pause on a silent Holland.

"Only bad people go to hell." - Niles Perry
