I Love This Movie

Joe D'Amato's Death Smiles at Murder is one of my favorite horror movies on the basis of the story alone. I also like the erotic elements and the cinematography. Does anyone out there in the world feel the way I do or even like this film?

Definitely one of my top 10. Such a beautiful film and I love the music. Actually, I haven't watched it in some time, maybe I'll put it on today! Which version(s) have you seen?

The version I have is a bootleg that has japanese subtitles. It took me 20 years to see the uncut version, so I didn't care about the subs. I would like to have it on DVD with a clearer picture though. What are your other nine favorites?

YES!!! I also really love this bizarre movie. Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it doesn't, but who cares? Berto Pisano's GORGEOUS music and the hypnotic visuals combine beautifully in an unexpected way that goes against the grain of typical "horror" movies. The erotic element gives the film a sultry spark as well. I first saw it on TV in the late 70s over and over (and looked forward to its being aired) as "Death Smiles on a Murderer" and only wish I'd smoked pot or drank beer back then to have been able to enjoy it that much as a young adult (whereas now I freely imbibe to enjoy many such movies). An altered state doesn't necessarily explain the mysteries of this movie, but it doesn't hurt, either. WINK!

I really wish that a good import DVD company like Blue Underground, et.al. would release this title (without the Japanese subtitles that I have on my VHS copy, which is very rough around the edges).

At least, thank goodness, Berto Pisano's dreamy music has been released to CD. Find it at www.moviegrooves.com and other such vendors.

I found this film to be an interesting oddity. I really dug the extremely eerie and hypnotic dream-like atmosphere as well as the kinky elements of lesbianism, voyeurism, and necrophilia. Great score and gorgeous cinematography, too. And Ewa Aulin is simply adorable as Greta.

1,000 mini-bios and I feel like I'm just getting started

You, sir, pretty much summed up my views of this quite damn eerie and interesting film. This is a fine example of Joe D'Amato's skills with camera he unquestionably had, the fact that is sometimes forgotten when discussed about his films and including only later unfortunate hackjobs in such a conversation.

"The horror... The horror."

I'm 30min in but finding difficult to keep going. The music is annoying to me. I got this because it is on a Netflix rental which is a double feature DVD including this & The Torture of Dr Sadism. It's rare of me to turn a film off. It sounds overdubbed but the lips looked in sync. The 2nd audio channel is audio commentary in English as well. No other audio. Not even Italian. Maybe it's this copy? Anyway, seems like the people here who like it, all have high ratings & reviews, & speaking highly of it. So I'll give it another chance another time.
