Longest start with no dialogue?

One of the unique things about this movie is its beginning (which I love). I believe there is around 9 min with no dialogue! I know that the start of Good, bad and ugly is close. Are there any other movies out there that have a longer beginning without talking?

Propably 2001. The apeman grunting, can hardly be described as dialogue.

Just seen it and it was about 20 min with no dialogue

reply

On my DVD copies It's 15 mins and 11 seconds.

"Once Upon a Time in the West", also starring Bronson, has a very long opening scene without dialouge (now that I think about it, maybe the ticket taker at the train station said something before they put him in the closet, but it couldn't have been much and there was no dialouge for several minutes afterwards). There's another movie on the tip of my tounge that I just can't think of...

25 minutes and 38 seconds into 2001 is the first word of dialogue.

Nah...that old coot said something in the beginning...I think, not counting 'Quest for Fire', that 2001 has it.

To my memory, he just nodded towards the man upon entering the small hotel.

reply

No he is right...he does mumble 'hi' when entering. Oh well!
