Soundtrack To 'The Mechanic' Released on CD

The Soundtrack to the film by Jerry Fielding has finally been released in its entirety on CD. It is a fantastic score and really enhances the film.
It has just been released on Intrada/Screen Archives Entertainment (ISC55) and is available through www.cinemaretro.com

Though I'd pass this along for anyone who has wondered about or tried to find this soundtrack before.

Yes good on you. The soundtrack is fantastic in this film. I'm also waiting for another Jerry Fielding score for a film called Scorpio also made by Michael Winner.

Glad you're enjoying the soundtrack! Through "The Mechanic" I've discovered the works of Jerry Fielding and have become a fan. I watched CB in "Chato's Land" the other night and Jerry Fielding did the soundtrack for that as well. It was excellent and certainly enhanced the film. I believe it just got a release on the same label as "The Mechanic".

I also have the "Straw Dogs" Fielding soundtrack...which is also worthwile. Including "The Mechanic", Jerry Fielding did six films with Michael Winner.

Hiya Duke! :-)

Yep, they did LAWMAN, out on CD by Intrada (www.intrada.com), then THE NIGHTCOMERS, which is out on vinyl, issued by Tony Thomas on the Citadel-label, TT-JF-03, then of course CHATO´S LAND and THE MECHANIC, both ultimately released also by INTRADA, but both scores had previous releases on vinyl and CD as well, then SCORPIO, out on vinyl as well, and last (but in this case unf. also least) the re-do of THE BIG SLEEP (but every Mitchum movie is at least watchable! smile), which is out on CD by FSM (www.filmscoremonthly.com), but also had an LP-release back then.

So ... to sum up ... EVERY WINNER/FIELDING cooperation is available either on vinyl or CD !!

Ain´t that good news !! :-)

I have "Straw Dogs" and "The Mechanic" on the vinyl Citadel release...got them on e-bay last summer. It was a two record set that was supposed to include two other Jerry Fielding soundtracks ("The Lawman and "Chato's Land") but in a mix up I got two LP's of "Straw Dogs" and "The Mechanic".

Since I don't have a turntable, I had the LP's transferred to CD at an audio shop in Hollywood. They both sound great. However when "The Mechanic" soundtrack was released by Intrada on CD, all the cues were intact and the sound quality is amazing. Jerry Fielding is my favorite soundtrack composer. So original yet so underated.

I would eventually like to have CD of "Straw Dogs" (if one exists) with all the cues intact. The Citadel vinyl version is presented as a "suite" and only has certain selections from the score. And, three of those tracks are missing because they open side-4 which contains the "Chato's Land" Suite.

I rented "Chato's Land" about a month ago and had not seen it since I was a kid. It didn't disappoint. CB was amazing

Keep in Touch!!! Write any time.

I see. The other 2 scores on this 2 LP-set would have been LAWMAN (out on Intrada) and STRAW DOGS, another favourite of mine, musically and of course also the movie. A "lovely" one by Peckinpah, a real gem. :-)) I think that STRAW DOGS is indeed really only available on this vinyl. :-(

If you need anything transferred on CD, I can do that as well, only cost you´d have to cover is postage. If you want anything, you´d have to compare what´s cheaper, having it done in an audio shop or paying the postage from Austria to the USA (of course that only makes sense if it is more than just a few tracks, which you need to have transferred, I´d assume).

Yep, Fielding is GREAT, and indeed still not that know, although much more known than 2, 3 decades ago. Back then only FOUR vinyls existed, which were THE NIGHTCOMERS, this 2LP-set and THE BIG SLEEP, period (as far as I know). Compared to that the situation is much better today. That´s thanx to Nick Redman from now-defunct Bay Cities (he´s still in the music "industry"), a real connaisseur of soundtarcks and a true and genuine admiror of Jerry Fielding, who put out a couple of his scores on CD back then and that made him more known to the CD-buying public. Yeah, he is one of my favourite composers as well. I guess I should have all his releases (at least aside from obscure 45´s). If you wanna check what has been issued, go to www.soundtrackcollector.com and put Fielding in the "search box" !!

Yep, get THE LAWMAN CD, it is NOT EXPENSIVE, I think 19,95 from www.intrada.com and give my greetings to Douglas Fake (I once met him in San Francisco many years ago, but I am sure he won´t remember. Anyway).

CHATO´S LANS is fundamentally amazing, absolutely. The 2nd top notch Winner/Bronson collaboration and as far as Charlie is/was concerned, he liked that most of all the movies he did with Winner. I mean, my God, look at that physique, those muscles (although I usually do not care for that), the guy was 50 then and had muscles ... he could have beaten the *beep* (pardon) out of all these anabolica-junkies. Did you read the IMDB-discussion about how he got that physique ? Interesting !

Check out - if your time allows - my comments on CHATO´S LAND as well as on HARD TIMES and BREAKOUT. :-))

Keep in touch!

SCORPIO is out on vinyl, unf. not yet on CD, but try www.ebay.com, it has been issued in the 70ies as part of the Bernstein-series. You can find it for around 10, 15 US if you are patient and it is certainly worth the dough (that is IF you still have a vinyl-player). :-)
