Remake in pre-production...

Likely players? He may not be the Charles Bronson type but Harrison Ford as an aging hit man(no, I'm not a fan if his) seems appropriate. Matt Damon as Steve, perhaps, or is he too big a name for a secondary role? Maybe they could also get Jan-Michael Vincent to do a cameo--even as a street person!

I think if its a cool remake like "Dawn of the dead" or "Cape Fear" - "Night of the hunter" they should do it but i know remakes aren´t such as cool as the originals >>>> Assault on Precinct 13 (the remake sucks). sorry for my bad german-like english.

cool remakes: gone in 60 seconds (GTA)
Amityville
Scarlett ;)
Nightwatch (ok same director)

I felt Oceans 11 and The Thomas Crown Affair were excellent remakes.

I don't like re-makes.

This movie is great the way it is, we don't need a friggin remake of it!

This sounds interesting enough. I read the same report late last night. Stallone's a pretty industrious guy and would probably get the job done well. I assume he's casting himself as Arthur Bishop. However I won't hold my breath there has been talk of "Mechanic" remakes twice before. One was to have Michael Douglas involved.Obviously neither one came to fruition.

I think it would be interesting to somehow have Lewis John Carlino the Mechanic's original author and screenwriter involved...I think he's still around.

Time for the waiting game again...

I have only heard Stallone mention the Mechanic remake, so I think he would be the star. He might as well also direct it, he is a fan of the movie.

What is up with Stallone trying to re-do Bronson all the time? Wasn't he supposed to remake "Death Wish" as well? What's up with that? If he's so obsessed with Bronson why didn't he help him out back in the day -- put him in the Rambo movies -- maybe Bronson could have played the Richard Crenna role or something. Weird.

my idea < steve < kevin zegers
< arthur < robert de niro

I can never figure on who would play Steve McKenna in a remake. I like the idea of Benicio Del Torro playing Arthur Bishop.

In the meanwhile I suppose we can look forward to Stallone's take on CB's characterization of Arthur Bishop.

I also think Quentin Tarentino would do a great job as director for the remake of "The Mechanic". I know he's a fan of the film.

I have always thought Bruce Willis would be good as Arthur Bishop. He has the physical skills to be an aging hitman and he would bring the right level of cynicism. As Steve McKenna, I think Josh Hartnett or Shia LeBeouf might pull it off.
