"Michael Winner's a hack blah blah Charles Bronson Death Wish violent blah blah"
What a smarmy "article", with its regurgitating all the banalities we've so often read about Winner and Bronson.
And how the heck can The Mechanic be a franchise??? Have they seen the original?

...original film - of which I believe Edgar Wright is bafflingly a rather vocal supporter -...
My bet is this will not happen...this talk of a remake of "The Mechanic" comes around every couple of years....once with Michael Douglas then again with Stallone and know this business with Statham....
It'll pass and probably never come to fruition. The Mechanic is better left alone and has truly become a sleeper classic.
Yeah...I know. The trailer is now out. Its on YouTube, and not looking that great. Nothing sublime and subtle like the original. Looks like a lot of explosions, car chases and gun play. Very contrived dialog as well.
Hopefully, the upside will be that the original will get some attention.
I don't know. I'm not writing it off yet. The plot seems to follow the original but with higher octane. The grittiness of the first film seems to be lost but I'm still looking forward to seeing it.
shareI completely agree. thats *beep* up. ive seen like 10 good movies this year and everytime i look them up i have to *beep* its being remade. what a piece of sht.
You've fallen in love with all the things in life that destroy men!

If they remake this movie, I hope Mickey Rourke gets the lead.
shareThe main reason that the idea of a remake is so unpromising is that there's nothing really all that original about the material. It's the way the story is told that makes this movie special. Will the remake have anything comparable to the long silent sequence that opens the film? Not likely.
