I might have seen this movie when i was younger but i am not sure. I remember the movie i saw had a creature in a swamp setting and from what i remember the creature is never really shown and towards the end you hear it. Is this the movie i am thinking of ? if not can you tell me what i am thinking of.... ok thanks!

That pretty much sums up the whole picture. I'd say this is the one you're thinking of...but be aware, like you, I had an impression of the film formed at an early age and re-watching it was an eye opener. Really, it's pretty good, just takes some work to get through if you like to laugh.
