the real story
can someone tell me the story about what really happened at Boggy Creek, or Fouke? I remember seeing this movie as a kid, but haven't seen it since. I'd love to track it down again. I loved it. Is it really a tru story?

Truly, it's a story, all right.
I haven't read Smokey's books, but I came to the conclusion, watching this film off and on over the years, that a great deal of the legend revolves around the Crabtree family, who seem central to it. As such, I came to believe that they were at the center of a hoax. Even now, it's Smokey's claim to fame.
But, entertainment-wise, it's been worth it. I don't begrudge them their place in it.
I wish it were true.
