This movie is a classic masterpiece!

It really DOESN'T deserve the low ratings that it typically gets.

I love it too. I can't understand the low ratings and snarky comments about it.

Love the photography, love the music and especially love the documentary style to it.

In their minds if a movie doesn't have Hollywood big names, then it's not worth anything to them! I just don't get it...

You're absolutely right that it is a classic and doesn't deserve it's low rating. I honestly think people dislike it because it feels very much like a product of it's time. You can tell it's a '70s movie but that's why I do like it. It makes me feel as if I was really there at that time experiencing the events along with the characters. I also love that this film sparks my imagination very much. I sympathize with the creature and feel sorry for it because as the film said, he must be very lonely since there is nothing else like him in the world and every living thing he does come in contact with wants him dead. Anyways, this is one of my favorite films of all time no matter what anyone has to say about it.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

It's perhaps a hair under-rated at 4.7. I'd say 5, which I consider an average film.
The pseudo-documentary approach to a monster movie about a make-believe creature was different, and it made for a reasonable time passer.
I don't think it was the lack of stars in the movie as much as the way contemporary viewers look at an era when a lot of paranormal silliness figured strongly in popular culture.
