Chen's goodbye

Who else thought that Chen was being so cold to his girlfriend when he just didn't say anything to her? I thought it was just such a crappy thing to do I would've at least kissed her, seeing that Chen was about to die! C'mon!

well she did have a daft hairdo...

"how dare you"

and she looked like a lousy kisser too and only gave him biscuits when he hadn't eaten in days. Very sloppy! LOL

As I said to Delores Montenegro in "Calling All Quakers", 'have it your way, baby'. Troy McClure

It's obviously a wig.

And she NEVER changed her clothes!

She didn't do anything either. Their love was exchanged through the tragic glances they exchanged in their eyes. Ain't you guys got no romance?

I think showing too much overt affection in presence of people, especially with both in the spotlight is something Chinese ppl can sometimes be embarrassed about.

It was all in the eyes

Funny how the boards for this movie only get comments a few times every other year or so.

Anyway, it was definitely all in the eyes. I think it all went back to conversations they had earlier about their future together, about running away and getting married. The school would have closed, but I don't think the Japanese would have straight up killed everyone, it would have been too risky. So up until Chen ran out and shouted, the both of them still had a shot of making it out together. Of course if he was capable of running away, there would have been a very different movie from the get-go, that's just not something he was capable of doing.

The looks they exchanged, at least to me, was one of disappointment and profound sadness on her part. Kind of like a 'we could have been together' look. His return look to me just said, 'I am sorry, but you know it has to be this way'. They clearly knew each other well enough to know exactly what was being said without having to actually say it. She probably had the feeling all along that he was not going to make it out of that situation alive, which makes their conversation scenes where she talks about their dreams that much more poignant.

At least in my opinion, anyway.
