I started this because I'm not going to give my credit card number or cell phone number to IMDB or anyone else, just to add this fact to the FAQ page. That being said...

In the book "Mountain Man" by Vardis Fisher, the Crazy Woman (Kate) froze to death in her cabin. The main character, Sam Minard, find her frozen solid in her pile of dirty rags in the corner of her cabin. As near as I can remember, no settler moved into her cabin after she died.

Didn't she lose her axe while she was trying to cut through the ice to get water at the river and then get wet while she tried to retrieve it? She froze to death.
There is another book called "Crow Killer"by Robert Thorpe about this story .They used to call him liver eatin Johnson according to the book.
