Never before have I seen this movie, or ANY Western- but damn. I was exhausted by the time it was all over. It's awesome in so many ways. It's sad, though- no one my age (18) will ever like this kind of thing.
At least not in New Orleans.
Trust me buddy, there are plenty. I first saw this movie when I was 16. I'm now 22.
I agree though, too many of the youth would simply ignore such a great film as 'boring'.

I am 40 and remember my childhood in the 80's when it was not difficult to see this kind of gems on tv everyday, now it is rare to catch one of these, I fear maybe if i was your age now I would be one of those which found them boring, so, congrats to you both for the good taste, and maybe even consider yourselves lucky for being able to apreciate and enjoy them :D .

This is not a typical "western", but then again what is?
I'm not even sure I would classify this as a "western" just because it took place in the frontier of the US in the mid-1800's and there were Indians involved. I didn't see one cowboy in the whole movie.

Glad you cut your teeth on this one as is it one of the more realistic 'westerns'. Want to see something wild, watch 'A Man Called Horse' that is also not imbelished, or formularized but raw interaction between N.A. and whites.

I saw this in theater in 72 at the age of 13 and it has remained a top favorite. I just watched it with my friends' 16 year old son and thought it was awesome. He's addicted to Halo type games and movies with a lot of action. I was listening to him comments on many of the subtle things so he never appeared bored at all.
