sand stole liebman's steal

look i agree w/ the guy posted that ron leibman stole this movie

the thing is i think paul sand stole the movie from ron leibman

both of these guys should been not just been nominated for oscars
for their hot rock performances

the statues should have been awarded by proclamation bypassing
the usual vote counting process

if ever two guys created hilariously funny characters from out
of what a script describes in general

these two guys did

i love these guys in this movie

sand: ' let's skip over that part if you dont mind ' referring to how he got the rock back after swallowing it
priceless

leibman ... well yeah pretty much every move liebman makes in the hot rock is
hands down wonderful

the face segal makes as a gum chewing leibman/murch careens the getaway car toward a ramp leading up into an empty parked semi-trailer is wonderful too

then leibman/murch getting ready to wing it literally as a helicopter pilot ...
well i only wish i could describe it adequately
and we see another queasy mug from segal here too - loved it

and then leibman as 'chicken' the deranged man-monster who terrorizes sand's daddy - an at first dismissive&cynical zero mostel - in the empty warehouse loft
and again once more a brilliant segal take - this time feigning to faint

first time i saw it i was scared and laughing at the same time and then stunned momentarily til sand's wonderful tag line, i'm gonna tell mom on you dad'

these are scenes that are criminally overlooked in the annals of hollywood comedies

they re just absolutely classic takes done by two guys
(not counting segal which i know is unfair but this thread is about 'supporting actors and their roles' alex for $500 please')
who were so good in this movie it s just wonderful to recall their parts

and tho leibman did steal the movie about stealing the gem
i think when he went to feel for it in his pocket it wasnt there
because paul sand had lifted it himself while leibman wasnt looking

he probably swallowed it again too but what say we skip over the details of that if you don't mind ...
