Six years to build?

Is it correct, that the Twin Towers took six years to build? If so, when was construction started and completed?

reply

It took about four years or so for each tower I believe. Work started on the overall site in 1966. The first tower (North) was opened in December 1970, then the South tower in January 1972 near to when this film was released. Looks like a lot of it was filmed around the summer of '71, making sense of the fact one tower looks completed and the other is at full height but still being finished off by the looks of it. It's a great looking film with very nice footage of 70s New York.

No-one is going to forget that day. Not just because of the Towers, but also the lives lost. I saw an interesting doc on TV last week, about some forgotten victims; The people who died in the Marriott Hotel, when the second Tower collapsed onto it. Only about 15 people survived by chance, because they were in a section of the hotel which had been re-enforced after the 1994 bombing.

I was appalled to read that TBS edited out the World Trade Center sequence on its post-9/11 airings. Way to dishonour the dead…

Thumbs up, Rob. I won't pay for television anymore. I get a lot of my DVD's at the library. I just watched this one tonight. A joy!

A number of film showings were cancelled just after 9/11 PB's third 007 was on cable at that point but was replaced with the very bad "Dangerous Minds"
Why that film I never know.

Looks like they were trying to cut down on showing violent films and yet most violent network TV Shows still aired
