If he is faster than what the other will live to be, doesn't this imply that what he will live to be is long(er)? How is that a threat?

The man doesn’t have enough time left in his life to put in the practice that it would require for him to become as fast as Duncan. It’s basically a way of saying that he’ll die soon.
