It was filmed in California, although whether that's where the story takes place, it's not clear. Probably California or Arizona.

I see from other posts that it was filmed in Mono Lake, California.
That's not too far from the Nevada border, in northern California on the eastern side of the Sierras.
The main reason I wondered is because Stacey Bridges talks about being sent to a "Territorial Prison."
Both California and Nevada were already full-fledged states by the 1870s or 1880s, when I presume the story takes place.
Arizona, however, was still a Territory -- until 1912, in fact!
