I have always taken it as some remorse (for giving in to the would-be rape) and her trying to protect her honor (what little she still had). She went back but mainly to show how outraged she was....

In what circle are men who intently want to seek out sex looked at as praise worthy exactly? Neither gender being particularly promiscuous often gets high praise from the other.
