Gender actually is important in this scene. She assaulted him first and was given the opportunity to leave. She continued the verbal and physical assault.
Indeed it was her gender that gave her more leeway than anyone else the Stranger dealt with. If a man had accosted him in the same manner he would have been summarily shot.
