HE WAS THE GHOST OF THE SHERIFF

1. he had nightmares about the sheriff being whipped to death and during the dream, as you recall, the face of Duncan's transposes over his own, indicating that this was the same man! 2. As he hunts down the bad guys he says;"help me! Help me!", the same words the sheriff said during his murder. 3.the hotel lady says that an old legend is that the dead don't rest without a marker. 4. ghosts can make themselves appear as anything they want, and Jim Duncan had obviously seen the good, the bad and the ugly quite a few times so yeah. So after the movie what happens? Does Duncan finally go to the afterlife? Does he still wander the old west? My guess is he goes to the great beyond where he can finally rest in peace. In the movie Blade Runner there are hints that harrison Ford's character is actually an android. In sixth sense bruce Willis finds out that he's a ghost unable to rest in peace, and what's interesting is that he himself isn't even aware of that fact! P.S. Having said all this, I've always thought it would be really cool for Clint eastwood to make a cameo in one of the x-men films as Wolverine's long lost dad!

Ghosts don't sleep, they don't dream, they don't eat, they don't drink whiskey, they don't need to shave, they don't need to bathe, they don't duck from scorned women with guns... I can go on. Those things are things a corporeal being does.

In addition to those functions I mentioned, ghosts don't use the internet either...

He was a ghost who had just recently passed on, and was still connected to the physical world. Clint later played a somewhat similar character in pale Rider. The only difference being that in pale rider, there's no doubt whatsoever that he's of some paranormal origin.
