LOL, yes! I read that years ago but only saw the movie last night for the first time on TCM...I kept thinking of the MAD version while viewing the film and LOL.
shareIn the spring of '71 when I was 14 I bought a special edition of Mad, that included a a fold-out poster that was an American flag with the Pledge of Allegience printed in red making up the red stripes, concluding with '...with liberty and justice for all, including kikes, wops, spics, *beep* WASPs, etc.' It was shocking even for those times; imagine something like that now.
Edit - the 'beep' is the N word.
It was the very first MAD magazine I ever saw. It also had a parody of all the Bond movies.
I was on vacation, and the boy who had it gave it to me. There was a hole in the cover - probably the parents cut out the offending language from the fold-out. I became a big fan of the mag.
I made a point of recording the movie last month and watched it yesterday, 40 years after reading it in MAD, and I knew the whole story, right down to "You're in my spot."
