It depends on the person's motivation.
When I took Spanish in high school, I would mime the pronunciation of the words exactly like the teacher did including rolling my "Rs" - not speak Spanish in an American accent. She always smiled when I read paragraphs in Spanish.
Lots of British actors can do American accents dead-on. The actress who plays Beth on Yellowstone and the girl who plays Rose on Two And a Half Men are both British, and I can't recall ever hearing either slip up.
