Makes sense. I haven't read the book in 20 years, and it was a made for TV movie so they had to G rate it. Actually, now I do remember. It was two guys.
I would love to see a big budget remake of this, with the 60's counterculture in all its glory. Then they'd have license to show more of the sordid stuff left out of this version. This got a little confusing: she almost seemed to go from innocent girl to the drug infested sewer overnight, probably because they had to pull their punches for the TV audience.

Actually, it had alot in common with "Forrest Gump", where it showed Jenny's life in the counterculture and ultimately the underworld. That managed to make the point without being preachy.
