Pet Peeves

For those of us who have read the book, and loved the book we all know that the main character's name is NOT Alice. In fact, we never know what her name is. That is why the book is written by anonymous. I read the book decades ago and fell in love with it. When I saw a reprint I laughed at the publisher for making a comment about "Alice" like she was the main character instead of the woman that is on the street.

I have said my peace. I just had to put this on here. Please no negative comments, I just had to write this.

Actually in the book we do learn that the narrators name is Carla. I think people just call her Alice because they associate the character with the books title rather then the song White Rabbit that the title came from.

I never got the impression Carla was the name of the girl in the story. It was the name of a girl in the story. "Alice" is writing her diary entry, and hears someone call for a friend and someone else says "Little Jacon can't come right now. He's humping Carla." Then 'Alice' writes after hearing this:
"I've got to get out of this s...hole."

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

Oh, cool, thanks. I hadn't thought of it that way when I read it but your interpretation makes much more sense.

Isn't the book title in reference to the Jefferson Airplane song White Rabbit? The lyrics to that song are about Alice in Wonderland and its many so called depictions of drug use. It's weird that the main character in the movie is called Alice, as we never find out the narrator's name in the book. Both Alice and Carla in the book are girls the narrator meets briefly. Very convenient that the narrator just happens to meet a girl named Alice and then the book is named for a song by Jefferson Airplane laden with drug references (as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was full of them).

Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.
