Soundtrack Music

I really want to know what the song is that is playing at the birthday party when Alice and her friends are snorting coke (the scene where Robert Carradine goes, "Hey man, yer brother's on fire!") I love the song, but I can't make out enough of the lyrics to even search for them, and I realize it's probably an unlicensed cover so it's not listed in the soundtrack listing. Anyone have any ideas on this one? I would be eternally grateful for a title and band name.

It has been FOREVER since I seen this movie, would love to be able to see it again.. BUT if I recall the song is it Traffic - Dear Mr Fantasy? Look that up on Youtube let me know... I believe it is...

reply

Actually, they play a probably-unlicensed cover of 'Dear Mr. Fantasy' during the first LSD sequence. This song comes later in the film. :-)

reply

Who sang the Jefferson Airplane cover?

"That movie gave me drunk-in-the-bathtub face!"

reply

The credits never say who it was! So I have to imagine it was an aggregate of studio musicians.

reply

It was Dear Mr. Fantasy (a cover, not the Traffic original) during the birthday party scene.

reply

The Dear Mr. Fantasy cover is used at the original party scene and during the flashback scene, not in the scene at Alice's birthday party. The song sounds vaguely like 3-Dog Night, and the lyrics sound like 'strange is what she said, when she left me,' 'long time, wrong place,' That's about all I can make out.

reply

"It Ain't Easy" by Ron Davies. It was also covered by Three Dog Night and David Bowie. It's on YouTube.

I answered this question some time ago, and even sent you a PM which was never acknowledged.

Thank you very much. I'm sorry I didn't respond before and I don't know why the email notifications are not enabled. Thanks again. i appreciate it greatly.

reply

Sorry, I didn't mean to be such a grump.

reply

No worries. I agree with you though, that the Alice version was better than the original! Although I am enjoying listening to the original.

reply

I'd forgotten how much I loved the soundtrack until I saw it again last weekend; it was like one long 70's video that made me miss my fringed vest and big bell Levis!

Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

Amos, check this out! It's a solo Gary Wright version of "The Wrong Time," and it is THE version used in the film! I like it much better than the Spooky Tooth album version. Enjoy!

reply

Thank you, great find! I can't believe I didn't recognize Gary's voice.

reply

It doesn't sound like the way he usually sings. That's what I thought. Anyway, I'm just glad it turned up.

reply

Veronica65 will be glad, too.

reply

That's me! For some reason my posts don't come up under that name anymore.

reply

Cool.
