Did anyone read the book in school?

In 1972 or 1973, I had to read this book in High School. So I must have been around 15 or 16. I have since read the book again as an adult, and I notice the book talks about things like losing virginity and getting raped, and other very explicit things. There is the use of the word c*cksucker, and another diary entry starts off with "Another day, another blow job". I don't remember reading that stuff when I was in high school! Seems like I would remember something so lurid when I was that age. I can't imagine my teacher discussing it with all of us. I find it hard to believe my high school would have allowed the book to be read by us. I am wondering if high schools would have censored certain phrases out of the book. Would there be abridged versions? I sort of doubt it, because it was banned by many schools, so why abridge a book when everyone else was banning it? Does anyone else have insight into this?

I read it in high school but it was not part of our reading material. Think I bought it in a bookstore because someone recommended it to me. I thought it was really interesting. I was one of the straights but I did have a few druggy casual friends. One ended up pregnant in her senor year and one day slipped away from campus ... heard she had a baby boy.

I did. In 1995

It was not an assigned book but it was one of those books that girls passed around old copies of because it was scandalous, like V.C. Andrews novels, or Judy Blume's Forever.
