PG rating - The Getaway (1972) Discussion

Well, the US version may be trimmed a little. Also, the film has not be re-rated, today it would at least get a PG-13 in the US.

Another thing is the UK is much more sensitive about violence in cinema. On the other hand, the US makes a bigger issue of nudity/sexuality.

I'm not saying its right, its just true.

Also, there was no PG-13 rating in 1972. It came around the time "Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom" (violence) and "Sixteen Candles" (sexuality) got American moralists in an uproar.

the film has been "re-rated", whatever that means. it's pg. violence, violence to women, rape, kidnapping, executions, garbage-compacting.. this flick has it all.. not to mention Sally Struthers tight & hot little body, ala 22 or so..! (Meathead had a chubby watching this one!)

I would love to see "Garbage Compacting" being a rating reason in one of the MPAA ratings boxes on a movie poster!

IN THE MOVIE TANK WITH JAMES GARNER,HE SAYS THE F WORD IN THAT MOVIE AND IT'S RATED "PG".HOW DID THEY GET AWAY WITH THAT?

The F-word is said around a half dozen times in "All the President's Men" and it's a PG. With zero violence and zero sex, they could get away with that.

IN THE MOVIE TANK WITH JAMES GARNER,HE SAYS THE F WORD IN THAT MOVIE AND IT'S RATED "PG".HOW DID THEY GET AWAY WITH THAT?ALSO STREETS OF FIRE WAS RATED "PG" AND THAT HAD ALOT OF VIOLENCE IN IT AS WELL.

well in my opinion as of today... i think the film would either be a strong PG-13 or a mild R.

but basically only reason im thinking mild R is for the violence (and cause of that i think it's overall more towards R than PG-13)... other than that it's easily towards PG-13 over a R on the whole.

I was alittle curious about this wen i saw the PG rating on the case, but things were quite different back then. Mr. Majestyk and Lone Wolf McQuade were quite violent for PG and would easily be rated R today. So I feel much better about this.

If your enemy refuses to be humbled....DESTROY HIM!

You can see a few times here and there that Al Lettieri says *beep* and *beep* a few times and it is dubbed over with non expletives, presumably to garner the PG rating in the U.S.

Even though it is 18 here it is still the same version, I've also had Japanese and Dutch editions and they were like it too.

Yet again another unfortunate incident where something gets cut in the U.S. and the rest of the world gets the same version.
