loved the slow-moving-yet-fast gargoyle run, Bernie Casey who we all remember from "Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde" as the Gargoyle... to die for, those big eggs, loved every second of it.
"Gargoyles 2" starring Wesley Snipes is on the table at the moment, keep your fingers crossed.
this movie is a classic...but i personally think Sherman Hemsley would be a better Gargoyle...

I couldn't believe how great the video quality of it is now on DVD - I'm so used to the grainy-faded version. I'm glad someone spent so much time restoring this classic movie,.
This is a movie that I'd always see on TV Saturday afternoons as a child. In Philadelphia it was Channel 17, 29 or 48 I think.
I was about 6 years old when I saw this film and I have always loved it. Pretty good for pre-CGI movie making.
shareWell, it's pretty good for a made-for-television movie from the ’70s. There were plenty of ways of doing special effects before the advent of computers, you know! And bad, cheaply done CGI looks just as fake as any other effects technique that's badly and cheaply done.

I had just turned six when this movie premiered on TV; I remember it being around Thanksgiving because we were off from school and it was chilly. It scared me silly, and every time I've seen it since it's STILL creepy! I just bought it on DVD so my husband will be seeing it for the first time soon.

It always seemed to be playing as the afternoon movie on channel 43 when I was home sick from school, and I loved it. I espcecially liked the opening narrative with the spooky paintings. Haven't seen it in ages though.

I was about 5 when I first saw this movie on TV (probably a Movie-Of-The-Week type thing). I remember watching it with my mother, and being the little kid that I was, it scared the bejesus out of me! At the same time, it intrigued me to the point that it drove me nuts because it never came on TV again (at least not in my neck of the woods). I never forgot this classic, and I was extremely fortunate to find the VHS one time in the local grocery store for sale, many many years later(ONE copy only! How lucky is THAT?!). I didn't even know that it had come out on DVD....now I'm gonna have to find the damn thing all over again! LOL

shareIf you're talking about Channel 43 WUAB Loraine-Cleveland, then I also recall watching this movie all the time on "Super Host's Saturday Movies". Great movie. Scary as hell for a six year-old.
shareI mostly remember seeing it on The Prize Movie. It's sad how WUAB went from Super Host, The Kroft Super Special, old comedies, etc., to syndicated garbage like Out of This World and Charles in Charge, to its present status as a fifth rate network affiliate.

Man I know exactly what you mean, I grew up in Cleveland watching Superhost Saturday afternoons on WUAB 43, The Ghoul Saturday nights on Kaiser 61 and and Big Chuck and Hoolihan every Friday night on WJW-TV Channel 8. Didn't know how good we had it back then did we, laying on that green shag carpet with that big greasy bag of chips, but then when you're a kid you think everything will last forever and nothing will ever change or go away...The way they've changed tv from back then is so memory shatteringly awful!! Progress is NOT always good!!

Most of the movies I mentioned I had I got from a private DVD place that I was told about at Wal-Mart (where I also got alot). They have a number of used DVDs, as well as alot of new ones, and I have gotten some from both sections. And when I was in there once I saw a copy of Gargoyles. I thought about getting it, as I like this movie and had not seen it for years, but it was nearly 40 dollars, so I decided not to. But I have been thinking of joining NetFlix and renting out other movies I do not have to see, but I have not gotten around to calling them yet. But I think I will in November.

That was one of my early favorites, I finally got it for my collection last year.
I also got to see Bernie Casey (without gargoyle makeup) in the James Bond movie, Never Say Never Again starring Sean Connery and co-starred Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) before his Johnny English days.
This movie scared the crap out of me when I was young! Bernie Casey as the lead "Gargoyle" and especially that voice he used saying "DIANA" and his eyes! He was a scary, sexy Gargoyle if you could imagine that combination. This movie was way before its time. Bernie Casey Rules!

I saw this when I was 11 years old in 1972. Needless to say it scared the crap out of me and every time it would be on.
Years later, after I moved from home and to another part of the U.S., I was lucky enough to live in an area that had many sources for films recent and older. Found a copy of 'Gargoyles' and without hesitation bought it. Got it home, watched it after twenty-some-odd-years and it still gave me the creeps - just like all those years before. The terror just stays with you.
I saw this when I was four. It was on the 2:00 movie one afternoon and I remember being amazed at it. It's been twenty years now since I've seen it and I'd love to watch it again to see how it holds up.

The Movie still holds up, they dont make them like this anymore.

I saw it when it first aired back in 1972. I was around six, and it scared me big time! i have not seen re-runs in over twenty years so i'll have to order it on dvd. Does any one know if the dvd has any restored footage or bonuses?
shareYou must have been born in 1966 and will turn 40 this year. I was 4 when it first premiered and have no memory of it then, but I did see it some on TV in the 1980s, then taped it off TNT late one night in 1991 on VHS, about the same time I did The Birds, and watched it often after that, and it is one of my 100 favorite movies of all time. I have not seen it since the mid 1990s, but I'm very glad to hear it is out on DVD, didn't think it was, and I hope to see it on there soon. I thought it was somewhat scary, though not terrifying, but made very good use of the sothwestern desert locations, and all the human characters were very well implemented, as were the gargoyles, and their battle throughout the movie was very well paced until the exciting climax. It always has been connected to another MTV horror movie from this era, 1974's Scream of the Wolf, which I will also write about now. I don't know if the DVD has anything the original broadcast did not, but as I said hope to find out.

I'm a huge fan of this genuinely creepy and enjoyable 70's made-for-TV creature feature. The make-up design for the gargoyles is truly frightening. Bernie Casey was terrific as the lead gargoyle. Cornel Wilde is likewise fine as well. Grayson Hall is a total hoot as the boozy Mrs. Parks. This film holds up because it's made with a considerable degree of flair and style.

I too love this movie as a kid, and have been looking for it on DVD, but all that are out there seems to be bootleg copies of when it was out on VHS, and they want big bucks for those.
shareJust saw this again a few days ago after many years after its initial premier on TV. The cinematographer, Earl Rath, and the director, B.L. Norton, along with SFX maestro Stan Winston & Bernie Casey (just coming off Brian's Song) deserve most of the credit for making this film memorable. Casey's makeup was one for the ages. And that final scene still blows your mind years later.
