I felt badly for the Gargoyles and rooting for them at the end.

I find myself usually sympathizing with the "monsters" in most monster or creature features and this is no exception, and the actor portraying the gargoyle patriarch did terrific work bringing a real performance out from under all that costume and prosthetics. The gargoyles were forced forced to wait for so long for the next generation that the human race had moved beyond their reach; there may have been a time when they could have seriously threatened man's supremacy but there was no way for them to do so given our numbers and technology. The one way I could see them supplanting humanity is for them to breed, replenish their population and remain hidden waiting for the day that humanity suffers a near death blow either through natural or self inflicted disasters. Afterall, mammals had to live under the dinosaur's shadow for millions of years before they emerged as the survivors of a mass extinction event. Maybe the gargoyles could hope for a similar turn of the wheel.

I felt sorry for the gargoyle who was run over in the road. That scene was sad to me. I didn't like the puddle of blood by its head or the look on it's face in it's last moments.
