Fat City/ Stockton California Trivia

The hotel in which Stacy Keach lives at near the beginning of the movie was the old QUEZON HOTEL, an old filipino hotel located at 228 South El Dorado Street. Today that location is part of the Crosstown Freeway (State Highway 4). In fact, when the movie was being filmed there in 1971, most of the Skid Row area was razed. Most of the movie was filmed in the Little Manila Area of Skid Row which was razed for the Crosstown Freeway. In fact, at the very beginning of the movie during the credits you can see part of that freeway under construction as well as buildings being demolished. Sad thing though, The book (Fat City) took place in the 1950's Stockton Skid Row but by the time the movie was filmed, most of that was already demolished. This movie is in need of a Special Edition, and I'd like to contribute to the Featurette on the making of the film in Stockton, California!
