Fat City and The Set Up

Patton Oswalt of "The King of Queens" TV show hosted two of his favorite boxing movies; "The Set Up" and "Fat City" at the New Beverly Theater here in Los Angeles, on October 5th and 6th. As a big boxing and classic movie fan, the chance to see these two on the (small) big screen was "an offer I couldn't refuse".

They're both absolutely superb films. Nobody will [ ever ] convince me that there is any film about the fight game which compares with ' The Set-Up '. I'm still not sure whether ' Fat City ' is more about boxing or alcoholism. It's an excellent film about boxing. However, I don't recall ever seeing a performance which compares with the late, great Susan Tyrrell's portrayal of an alcoholic. Stacy Keach was also excellent.

P.S. By the way, Big Bob ( Ryan ) is my favorite actor. I have close to 50 of his films in my collection. However, even if he wasn't my favorite, The Set-Up is still the best boxing film ever ( Sorry Marty ).
