I prefer The Fighter but that's because it is more about boxing than this one. This one is about...life, and down-and-out people, and IDK what. Not so much about the sport. Fat City is a better movie if you are looking for a character study with boxing as a background, and The Fighter is better if you are looking for a movie more about a boxer's career, with his day to day life as the background.
