Huston reinvented his style with this one


Its actully quite remarkable. At that time Huston was the master of the classical Hollywood style, but he tapped into the zeitgeist of the 70s and totally updated himself, able to compete with the young whippersnapper directors on their own terms.

Only thing similar thing I can think of was when the Steichen abandoned classical photography and established himself at the forefront of the f64 movement.

It almost a perfect match for "how movies looked in 1972": semi-documentary , realistic, gritty and grim.

Looks like : Junior Bonner and Prime Cut -- not only of the same year(1972) but of the same SEASON(summer).

Yes, these were what "summer movies" once looked like.
