If you don't like it - watch it again

When I first saw Fat City I was prepared for a grand boxing movie and instead I got a bunch of mopey arguing between Keach and Tyrell. I was not impressed - especially since there was little ring action. But, it had a way of staying with me and I watched it again and realized how great it is. Don't go into it prepared to watch a Rocky-esque movie...go in prepared to watch some damn fine acting and one of John Huston's best works.

Agreed. This is a textbook example of pure 70's filmmaking and a great character study.

Wonderful movie.

Director John Huston explained the theme of the movie beautifully. "It's about your life running down the sink without begin able to put the plug in to stop it."

Is there anything more visually arresting than that? Goes to show you what made Huston such a brilliant director: great visual instincts and storytelling talent.

Another thing to notice about this film that people no matter how desperate they are tend to be nice to each other. Very unusual.

It's that man again!!

I couldn't stand to ever watch this movie again, too depressing for my taste, as far as boxing movies go nothing will ever Top Rocky for me.
