Wonderful movie

It was a surrealist film, therefore the point was hidden behind symbols and metaphors and foreshadowing and other literary tricks that are not usually found in movies. Notice how the ambassador never ever got to sit down and actually eat something? The meal was always delayed or overshadowed by something else, and when he was hiding under the table in the final scene, he finally got a triumphant bite of his dinner. This is a very good film, but people just dont have the attention span to see anything deeper than what is there

Any "film lover" who can't appreciate this great film is no film lover. Its unique, hilarious, deeply unsettling at times, and often just plain visually brilliant.

Man, whats wrong with people: WHERES THE DISCUSSION ON THIS FILM?!?

I loved it, and was surprised to see the message boards on other Bunuel films. I thought it was his best one...yet no one seems to care for it...at least not on imdb.

I was surprised as well, since I have some questions about this movie..heh.I've seen it for the first time today and managed to receive almost everything in it, but I couldn't deal wery well with the two dream sequences told by the cavarly leautenant (how do you spell this damm - so, the dead mother's last wish and the street scene). Could you tell me your view on those?
thanks,
Victor

I was curious about that myself. I wondered if there was a tie-in between the lieutenant killing the man who killed his father and the bishop who (finally) discovered, absolved and then killed his parents' murderer.

Anyhow, my view of the first scene with the lieutenant would be something to do with the fact that their (the ladies') biggest problem was a lack of coffee or tea; then this young man sits down and tells them about a real problem, and they totally blow it off. It serves to show how shallow the upper class is when compared to normal people. I'm not really sure how the second dream fits in, though. Was that even the same guy? He was a sergeant, not a lieutenant.

MC Zener quotation about this movie:
"It used to be a truism among purist cinephiles, that the better the film, the less that can be written about it."

Rose: Ned was sort of the town idiot.
Sophia: When, on your days off?

indeed that was a wonderful film and what satisfies me is that after 30 years people are still interested in Bunuel's films.Perhaps nothing new and smart as this film exists in nowadays.
