The Very Best of Surrealism

Surrealism in itself is a very loosely defined genre, and in the modern vernacular basically means anything that is even slightly experimental. Given that I have seen the so-called modern takes on surrealist ideas (Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine, David Lynch movies, etc.) this movie definitely rises above them. The difference I think is that it creates a truly surreal atmosphere throughout, to the point that I was actually, genuinely wondering if what I was seeing was real in any way.

I guess my question is, are there any other films that come close to being as awesome as this?

you may as well enjoy the exterminating angel.
and I totally agree, this is the very best of surrealism. All the jokes, atmosphere, the acting, etc, etc was in the right point.

I think for pure surrealism, Phantom of Liberty, also by Buñuel is one of the greatest.
