Bill McKay Loses Re-election
Well, the guy he is based on, John V. Tunney lost his re-election bid. Not only that, but he lost re-election to an incompetant baffoon who fell asleep during Senate sessions.

shareSenator John Tunney (born 1934), son of boxing champ Gene Tunney, was elected at age 36 in 1970. Seeking reelection in 1976, Tunney beat back a primary challenge from 60's activist Tom Hayden, then lost narrowly to Republican newcomver S. I. Hayakawa (1906-1992) in November. As many remember, Hayakawa gained fame for often falling asleep in the Senate.
