Yes, I agree. I love Renee but I don't think she can carry the 'spunk' that Sally Bowles possesses. That, and she doesn't strike me too much as a hag :-)
Furthermore, I'd like to know who's playing Brian & Max.
If they ever remade Cabaret with Renee Zellwegger I wouldn't watch it. No offence to fans of Renee but I find her irritating.
shareWith or without Renee Zellweger... it'll never be as good as the original!

This story has been doing the rounds for at least three years...
shareHmmm...what would be the point of remaking a film that won 8 Oscars???

If they do re-make this. i would like to see it done as the show. With the correct story line, all the correct songs, and with an english Sally and american Cliff.
sharei agree. i found the film really confusing and random, i got bored with the seemingly random shots of this such as someone being beaten up. I thought the stage version was much better. If the remade the film i would want to see herr schultz and fraulein shneider x
You know you love me--x

If the connection between the slap dance on stage and the beating of the club manager
by Nazi thugs after he ejected some from the club seems random you were not playing
attention.
and with an english Sally and american Cliff.Would Renée make a decent British Sally? I didn't think her accent was bad in Bridget Jones.

Yes I think she could pull it off.
Then again, that article is over 2 and 1/2 years old, and a quick search of IMDb has not turned up any evidence that there is a Cabaret remake in the works, nor is anything mentioned on Renée's page. Can anyone find anything more recent that talks about a possible remake?
Wonder Twin Powers, ACTIVATE! Form of...a Frost Giant!
Only if she plays the emcee.
Renee Is not the dancer that Liza was at the age, when she WAS Sally Bowles. You need a very strong Fosse type dancer, which is not Renee.
For example, watch the difference is dancing ability, in the film Chicago. Ms. Zeta Jones, is far better as Velma then Renee is as Roxie.
The other thing is that Renee sing voice, the cuppiie doll voice, is not right for Sally. Sally needs to have a very strong, loud voice!

I don't see the need to do a remake, the only possible reason someone would is to make some money, or they think they can add to it.
Personally I couldn't see how you could add to it.
You certainly couldn't remake it today without taking something from it.
I certainly agree! Whether you agree with Liza as Sally or not, she certainly was perfect in the part, flashy and hedonistic on the outside, little girl lost on the inside. I saw and interview with LM and she said her dad, the incomparable Vincent helped her with her 'look' for Sally. Perfect! There isn't too many Vincent Minellis around today.
Interesting how there is only one father/mother/child or to put in another way, one family (as they were at one time) to all win Oscars. Judy, Vincent and their daughter, Liza.
There will never be a movie remake of "Cabaret." Ever. It won't be done. Probably, it CAN'T be done. There's no reason for it, and there are no living actors who could bring it off in the shadow of Fosse's masterpiece with the bulls-eye casting of Grey, York, and indelibly, Liza Minnelli.
shareIt seems this idea of a remake has been scrapped. Thank goodness. This fever for
remakes of classic films is pure lack of imagination and/or pandering to the current
generation of moviegoers and/or money-grubbing.
