Ed spent 10 years caring for father Eddie, who probably lived to 99 BECAUSE his son was there for him, and died himself a year later (2006) of lung cancer. He was a dedicated environmentalist as well as a wonderful actor--Butterflies Are Free is moving, hilarious and CLASSIC

I knew he had passed away, but wasn't sure what year it was until I saw this post. He sure was wonderful in this movie, and I wish he's gone further than he did in his career.
