shareI think in the first scene, with the birthday, Blacula left because the girl with the camera was taking pictures and that seemed to put him on edge, and then of course when she left he went to her house and attacked her and took the picture because he knew he wouldn't show up on the print. Otherwise, maybe he just didn't like Skillet and felt too good to hang around with him
shareIt was weird to me that Mamuwalde seemed to know about cameras at all, though...if he died in 1780, how the heck would he know what the little flashy box-thing was?
sharelol, that's actually a good point, dirkzorn. That could almost be a plot hole. Vampires seem to be aware that they don't show up in pictures and they can't see their reflections in mirrors. Maybe it's something they know instinctively about themselves, just as they know that sunlight will kill them.
shareI said the same thing. Cameras didn't exist in the 1700's. Also, Blacula knew about night clubs and contemporary language.
shareHe also knew about all the aspects of being a Vampire (despite having nobody to teach him the ropes while he was stuck in that coffin), knows about American culture, and can speak modern-day English.
Welcome to my Nightmare- Freddy Krueger
Remember Vampires have parnormal/supernatural gifts so it was just natural. Just like GOD & Satan. They travel through time and time means nothing to them and I think Vampires have the same gift. Remember they are immortal and can live forever. Hope this makes sense. They are in tune with the spiritual relm and the physical relm.
NINA MAE MCKINNEY IS MAGNIFICENT
Mamuwalde was from Wakanda, and in 1780, the country was so advanced, cameras already existed
shareHi,
I am sorry I am replying so very late to this question.
The Skillet and Blacula separation is not a plot hole. If you ever notice from the beginning when Skillet comes, Blacula (Mamuwalde) gives him an odd look. There is the symbolic way to look at that mysterious, uncomfortable stare, which is that Skillet is down right rude and doesn't have the mannerisms of a gentleman. Then the literal response I will tell you answers the question. Blacula's uncomfortable look is because Skillet's sunglasses are in mirror form. Blacula knows that it is possible that someone will notice his abnormality. Of course, he leaves immediately when Nancy starts the photos, but he was uneasy when Skillet comes because he notices those glasses.
That is why the second time Blacula is at the club, and Skillet comes around, he right away leaves with Tina (Luva).
You have my word that is why Blacula doesn't even talk to Skillet. The mirror glasses are a major risk to our victim and predator.
Always, Joseph
Brilliant answer--I didnt think of the glasses--I was going to say the camera itself has a mirror inside it (as well as the glass of the lens) and that is what made him react.
shareI noticed it too, and by the way, Skillet was one of the better characters in the film although his scenes were brief.
