I remember seeing this movie when it came out in 1972. I was 10 at the time and I remember crying at the end when Ben came back to David. I raised small rodents at the time...rats, mice and gerbils, so the film had a special meaning for me...except for the rats killing people. Anyway it was a great movie and I haven't seen it since and that was 34 years ago...funny seems like yesterday. I'd like to see it again.

I keep rats as well. I don't think I'd like this very much if the rats are killers. Never heard of this until I went on www.ratsauce.com and looked in the "Famous Rats" section!

I saw "Ben" back in the 80's as a kid. It was a tear jerker. I balled at the end. I also had gerbils small rodents as a kid. The friendship between Ben and the boy was really touching when I saw it as a kid.
shareI'm with the OP, I saw "Ben" when it first came out and I was just a child like the OP was. Loved it, but then again it was a product of the times, but the memories though. They have remade "Willard" but I'm kind of confused as to why Ben wasn't remade. BUT then again in the remake of "Willard" he DOES wind up killing Ben at the end of the movie so I guess a "Ben" sequel wouldn't make much sense.

Yes, this is one of my favorite movies ever made. I would even put it in my Top 5 some days depending on what mood I'm in. It's more than a horror movie about killer rats, it's also a beautiful tale of friendship that makes me happy each time.
