I'm hunting high and low for where I found the report, but
it was reported the ever-cheerful Peter Sellers (March Hare)
was the "rubbisher".
I wouldn't take any single person's view for granted anyway, but usually people associated with a film have the least objective view of the finished thing. Actors, for example, can have all sorts of reactions which are more to do with their experience of making the film, how their performance was edited, how they got on with the people involved and how the finished film ended up compared to how they imagined it would be.
Whatever his talent, Sellers in particular was not best known for his humility, cool rationality or empathy for other people's point of view.
It's just my opinion, but though this is one of the more faithful adaptations, I think this version is dull, dull, dull. And the entirely forgettable music help makes it a marathon endurance test.
But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.
It's funny cuz I was just watching this and I thought Sellers did the best job in it. He was the most expressive, I liked watching his "eye acting." I thought Micheal Crawford did good do, expressive eye acting as well.
Must be some magic with the rabbits in this movie.
