Am I the only one who thinks this movie is creepy?

Like, really creepy. I think it's the way they have that animal/human hybrid with the make up on the actors' faces. The animal costumes in general, really. I've seen a lot of adaptations of AiWL and none of them have animal costumes this creepy. (Excluding Svankmajer's Alice, but those are puppets.) Rewatching the film, it' not just the costumes. Something about the whole thing seems kind of...off. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what. The songs are definitely a bit off, and I think it's the singing. They all sound perfectly nice, but it's missing the "cheery" quality movies like The Wizard of Oz have. Perhaps the seemingly endless set has something to do with it too? The set looks massive in nearly every scene.
If anyone else thinks this movie is creepy, share why.

(I still like the film, it's good, just creepy!)

I agree. I remember watching this as a kid and remember how uneasy it made me feel seeing those characters in costume. I never forgot that.

The more I study it, the greater the puzzle becomes.

I can't say that I ever had that experience. It seemed rather ... "normal" for the kind of movie that it is.
